A chance to do things better

Dear friends,

As an industry we have reached an unprecedented level of confusion and complication when it comes to sustainability communications.

Consumers demand transparency and clarity.

The trouble is, sustainability doesn’t allow for shortcuts, a simple logo, or an easy-to-understand claim.

That’s why we introduced Material Facts.

A new and more transparent approach to communicating sustainability at product component level. We give consumers the raw data, the facts they need to make informed decisions.

But we’re not done yet, and we don't want to do this alone.

We want the industry to work together for a sustainability data standard.

So, how do we deliver more accurate information?

Together with the European Outdoor Group (EOG), we hosted an interactive webinar series presented by our CSR Manager, Haydn Cornish-Jenkins.

We’ve shared our Material Facts methodology in an easy-to-understand format that can be adopted by other brands and retailers.

The Material Facts Collective plans to take this to the next level.

Bringing together industry partners, brands and retailers with different product categories and materials, allows the original Material Facts Methodology to be tested, and improved.

We aim to publish a formalised and unbranded data methodology in 2025.

Driven by performance and accuracy, we believe in trust and honesty.

Taking the complexity out of sustainability information and presenting the raw Material Facts to consumers is the only way forward.

Material Facts Methodology: Introduction & Purpose

Learn how Material Facts methodology calculates sustainability criteria as a percentage of product weight, why Yonderland believes it's critical for our industry, and how you can implement it into your business.

Material Facts Methodology: Fabrics & Insulation

Use the Material Facts template to calculate your test product’s percentages, starting with fabric and insulation, and hear how Gore has the data you’ll need.

Material Facts Methodology: Zips, Trims + Total Calculations

Complete the Material Facts template by adding the zips and trims data while hearing from a leading trims supplier; finishing the session with a complete Material Facts table for your test product.

Open to see.

Each product has its own table, detailing the product’s composition.

Recycled material by weight.

Split by outer fabric, lining fabric, zips and trim material. This means you know exactly what and how much recycled material is used, and where.

Fluorocarbons (PFAS) noted by component.

So you can see exactly where PFAS are being used in your product.

The percentage of renewable energy used in the final product manufacturing stage.

Country of origin, at point of purchase.

Size and weight assumptions.

Supported with clear claims.

That summarise the Material Facts data.
Allowing retailers to be accurate about what the data means at a whole product level.
